About the Book

Breakfast, Lunch and Diner, initially published in 2009, is an introduction to the stories, history, folklore, customers, management, food and traditions of 80-plus independent restaurants in St. Louis and surrounding region.
Filled with humor, charm and surprises, Breakfast, Lunch and Diner is a cultural historian’s look at area restaurants and clearly not that of a traditional food reviewer/critic.
The book–all 340 paperback pages of it–includes stories of banned customers; bizarre manners; strange menu items; weird customer requests, and insights into why people love the restaurants and habitually return.
Blunchblog.com is designed as a sequel to the book, adding updates on the restaurants and offering in-depth interviews of owners and managers. The web site is also an introduction to new restaurants that catch the author’s fancy and have a story to tell.
St. Louis radio personality Johnny Rabbit says of Breakfast, Lunch and Diner:
“If you’re up to the tantalizing task of discovering dining destinations, keep Breakfast, Lunch and Diner at your side, activate your GPS, and follow the culinary course set by Bob Rubright.”
The book is available at all major St. Louis area bookstores for $19.95 and through Amazon.com.
